Getting Started in the Extra Chill Community

The Extra Chill Community is a music-focused forum where fans, artists, and industry professionals connect through meaningful discussions, music sharing, and social features. Whether you’re here to discuss your favorite bands, get feedback on your music, or network with like-minded people, this guide will help you get started.

Creating Your Account

Option 1: Email Registration

  1. Visit community.extrachill.com
  2. Click "Register" in the top navigation or visit the registration page
  3. Provide your email address and create a password
  4. Check your email for a verification link and click it to activate your account

Option 2: Google Sign-In

  1. Visit community.extrachill.com
  2. Click "Sign in with Google" on the login page
  3. Choose your Google account and grant permission
  4. If you have an existing Extra Chill account with the same email, you’ll be automatically signed in
  5. If this is your first time, a new account will be created automatically

Once registered, you’ll be automatically logged in across all Extra Chill platforms (extrachill.com, artist.extrachill.com, etc.) thanks to the multisite authentication system.

Understanding the Layout

After logging in, you’ll see:

  • Navigation menu with links to Recent activity, forum categories, and your profile
  • Homepage showing featured forums, latest activity, and community highlights
  • User avatar menu (top right) for accessing settings, notifications, and logout
  • Online users indicator showing current community activity

Exploring Forums

The community features several discussion areas:

  • Local Scenes – Discuss music scenes in your area
  • Music Discussion – General music topics and conversations
  • Extra Chill Articles – Blog content discussions with enhanced commenting

Browse existing topics by clicking on forum names, or use the search function to find specific discussions.

Participating in Discussions

Starting a New Topic

  1. Navigate to the forum where you want to post
  2. Click the "New Topic" button
  3. Enter a clear, descriptive title
  4. Write your post using the rich text editor (supports images, links, and formatting)
  5. Click "Submit" to publish

Replying to Posts

  1. Open any topic you’re interested in
  2. Scroll to the bottom or click "Reply" next to specific posts
  3. Use the rich text editor to compose your response
  4. Mention users with @username for notifications
  5. Submit your reply

Content Guidelines

  • Be kind – Keep discussions respectful and constructive
  • Avoid spam – Self-promotion is limited to designated areas

Using Social Features

Upvoting Content

Following Users

Visit any user’s profile and click "Follow" to add their posts to your personal feed. This is especially useful for keeping up with artists and industry professionals.

Notifications

Check the bell icon in the top navigation for:

  • Mentions (@username)

  • Activity from users you follow

Building Your Profile

Basic Customization

  1. Click your avatar in the top right and select "Settings"
  2. Update your profile information, including:
    • Display name
    • Social media links
    • Personal bio
    • Custom title (defaults to "Extra Chillian")

Avatar Upload

In your settings, you can upload a custom profile picture that will appear across all Extra Chill platforms.

Artist Verification

If you’re a musician or industry professional:

  1. Go to your Settings page
  2. Request verification to add a badge to your profile
  3. Once approved, you’ll get a special section to showcase your work

Understanding the Rank System

Your community rank is based on points earned through activity:

  • Creating topics and replies (2 points each)
  • Receiving upvotes on your content (0.5 points each)
  • Contributing to the main blog (10 points per post)

As you accumulate points, you’ll progress through ranks from "Dew" to "Frozen Deep Space," displayed as badges next to your name.
